The Permian Basin of west Texas and SE New Mexico is increasingly important to the economies of these states and to US energy independence, but many university geoscience faculty and students know little about it. The Basin is densely drilled for hydrocarbons, but there is much we do not know about how it formed and evolved.

In order to better understand the geological evolution of this basin and to inform and prepare the next generation of geoscientists, in February, 2019, we established the Permian Basin Research Lab in the Geoscience Dept. at UTD.  The lab is currently located in Room 1.206 of the ROC Building.
