Who we are

The Language Interaction and Language Acquisition in Children (LILAC) Lab is part of the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas. We conduct observational and experimental studies to understand how various groups of children acquire language, including children with autism spectrum disorder, bilingual children and monolingual children.

Where we are

We are located in the Callier Center Richardson on The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) campus in Richardson. The address is 811 Synergy Park Boulevard, Richardson, TX 75080. Free parking is provided for families who visit our lab.

Study Opportunities

We have short, fun studies for young children. Currently, we have studies for English-speaking families with 3- to 5-year-olds, Mandarin-English bilingual families with a 12- to 30-month-old child, Spanish-English bilingual families with a 27- to 30-month-old, and 18- to 48-month-old autistic children. You can read more about each study here: https://labs.utdallas.edu/lilac-lab/active-studies/

If you are interested in any of these studies or have questions, you can email us at lilac.lab@utdallas.edu or sign up if you would like to participate in our research and contribute to language development science!

Training Opportunities for Students

We currently have openings for Spanish-speaking or Mandarin-speaking undergraduate research assistants! We will be recruiting broadly for Summer and Fall 2025 in April 2025. If you are interested in joining our team, please complete a BBS Research Portal application here and email our team at lilac.lab@utdallas.edu once you submit an application.
