The SURF program brings together students from various summer programs together. McIntyre Lab PhD students each mentored one student through the creation, execution, and finally presentation of their summer work! The students represented the CLARK, ENSURE, and NSF REU programs. We are proud of all they were able to accomplish in a few months.

Ciro Randazzo wins 2023 BBS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Cognitive Science

Back at it again! Ciro Randazzo was selected as the Spring 2023 recipient for BBS Dean’s award for excellence in cognitive science. This prestigious award recognizes students who excel in academic performance, and have been actively involved in university activities. Ciro is off to UCSF to work as a research assistant in the Brainard Lab. He plans to pursue a MD/PhD in the near future.

McIntyre Lab earns props at Gordon Research Conference of Optogenetic Techniques

Rimenez Souza won the best citizenship award, Samantha Plas won a poster award, Debora Calderon is appointment GRS co-chair for Opto-techniques 2024 and earns the GRC Carl Storm Underrepresented Minority Scholarship.

Vijaya Dutt is awarded a Green Fellowship at UT Southwestern

Vijaya joined the McIntyre lab in her freshman year. After several semesters in the lab, Vijaya applied to and was awarded a position as a BBS Green Fellow. This research program provides a semester-long, fully paid undergraduate research fellowship. Currently, she works in the lab of Dr. Katherine Wert. https://labs.utsouthwestern.edu/wert-lab/people

Ciro Randazzo Wins BBS Honors in Summer Undergraduate Research

Ciro Randazzo joined McIntyre Lab in 2019, during the fall of his freshman year. In the lab, he studies vagus nerve stimulation as a therapeutic for anxiety disorders (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder) and autism spectrum disorder while also implementing effective software and computational tools. Ciro is majoring in cognitive science and minoring in philosophy. Around campus, he is active as a Collegium V Council member, a Peer-Led Team Learning Leader, and is a National Merit Ambassador. https://spur.utdallas.edu/

Sheza Habib Delivers Commencement Speech at May 2022 Graduation

Sheza Habib joined UTD in the fall of 2018 and graduated with bachelor’s degrees in neuroscience and psychology. In our lab she studied the neurobiology of memory and migraine and recieved the Undergraduate Research Scholar Award. Outside of lab, she received BBS major honors distinction, Collegium V honors, and received an Academic Excellence Scholarship with Honors. Sheza was also a member of the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College.

Anisha Holla is Awarded the Prestigious Archer Fellowship

Anisha Holla joined the McIntyre lab her first semester of UTD, fall of 2019. In our lab she studies the effects of vagus nerve stimulation on the enhancement of fear extinction. The Archer program is a public policy internship in Washington D.C. Students work with a government agency or committee of their choosing to help develop policy solutions to issues of interest. Anisha will be working on mental health policy and equity during her semester in D.C.
