Heidi Kane, PhD

DR. HEIDI KANE

Dr. Kane, the director of the Close Relationships and Health Lab, is an assistant professor in psychology at The University of Texas at Dallas. She received her BA in psychology from Rhodes College and her PhD in social psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Following graduate school, Dr. Kane was an NIMH postdoctoral fellow in health psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Before coming to UT Dallas, she was a research scientist in the psychology department at Wayne State University in Michigan. See Dr. Kane’s bio on the BBS website.

Doctoral Students

Yue Li

Yue Li

Yue is a 4th-year doctoral student in the psychology program. She received her BS in psychology from Beijing Normal University in 2018 and MA in cognitive science in education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2020. Yue is interested in how we perceive and regulate our own and others’ emotions, how these processes are shaped by contextual factors, such as culture, and their implications for health and well-being. 


Patricia Monique Sanchez

PATRICIA MONIQUE SANCHEZ

Patricia Monique Sanchez, MS is a fourth-year doctoral student in the psychology program with a concentration in social/personality. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in psychological science in the spring of 2021 and received her MS in psychology from UT Dallas in 2023. Patricia’s research interests include examining relationship outcomes among romantic couples and developing imposter phenomenon and sense of belonging programs to improve graduate student experience.


Dru Peacock

DRU PEACOCK

Dru Peacock is a first-year doctoral student in the psychology program. She graduated with a BS in psychology from Texas A&M University in 2023. Dru’s research interests center on adult well-being and how it is impacted by an individual’s past experiences, such as childhood attachment and experienced parenting style.

Giovannie Ferrer-Falto

GIOVANNIE FERRER-FALTO

Giovannie Ferrer-Falto is an incoming master’s student in the applied cognition and neuroscience program. He received his BS in neuroscience and is excited to learn about the psychological and social influences affecting Latine quality of health within the lab.


Evis Bergenholtz

EVIS BERGENHOLTZ

Evis Bergenholtz, is a student at The University of Texas at Dallas. After finishing her psychology degree, she plans to pursue a master’s in psychology with the goal of pursuing a career in counseling.


Kiara Gonzalez

KIARA GONZALEZ

Kiara is a fifth-year senior at UT Dallas, graduating in December with a BS in psychology. Her research interests lie in interpersonal relationships, criminology, sleep, and nutritional psychiatry. She plans to pursue her PhD in clinical psychology the following fall.


Sara Rebollo Diaz

SARA REBOLLO DIAZ

Sara is a senior at UT Dallas, graduating in May 2025, pursuing her BS in psychology and a minor in Spanish. Sara hopes to pursue her PhD in clinical psychology or social psychology after her time at UT Dallas.


Adrianne Larumbe

ADRIENNE LARUMBE

Adrianne Larumbe graduated from UTD in Spring of 2024 with a BS in psychology. She is pursuing a career in therapy with an emphasis on relationship and family therapy.


Arianna Plummer

ARIANNA PLUMMER

Ariana Plummer is an undergraduate psychology major and cognitive science minor in her senior year. She joined the lab in the spring of 2023 and plans to further her education toward a master’s degree in something cognition/behavioral related.


Kennedy Ownby

KENNEDY OWNBY

Kennedy Ownby is completing the last year of her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She obtained her associate degree in general studies at TJC before transferring to UT Dallas in the Fall of 2023. She started as a research assistant in the Close Relationships and Health Lab in the summer of 2024, and plans to use the knowledge she gains to aid in her goal of becoming a couple’s counselor.


Benjamin Dubois-Lavoie

BENJAMIN DUBOIS-LAVOIE

Benjamin Dubois-Lavoie is a Junior studying psychology at UT Dallas. He joined the lab this summer as a Research Assistant. He hopes to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology. Benjamin is also a proud member of the UT Dallas Men’s Tennis Team.


Abhi Halbhavi

ABHI HALBHAVI

Abhi Halbhavi is a senior at UT Dallas. He joined the lab in the Summer of 2022. He is currently majoring in neuroscience with a minor in visual arts and plans to attend medical school after graduation.


Sanya Bhatt

SANYA BHATT

Sanya Bhatt is a UT Dallas alumni with a bachelor of science degree in neuroscience. She has been with the CRH Lab for over 2 years, and plans on attending medical school in the future.


Deepali Rao

DEEPALI RAO

Deepali Rao is a senior at UT Dallas and is currently majoring in psychology. She joined the lab in Spring 2024 and plans to attend medical school in the future. 


ASHTON MALONE

Ashton Malone is an incoming undergraduate senior at UT Dallas and is majoring in psychology. After graduating, he has plans to enter medical school and will attempt to receive an MD with a career in psychiatry.  


Maria Husain

MARIA HUSAIN

Maria Husain is a senior majoring in psychology at UT Dallas. She started joined the lab as a research assistant in the summer of 2024. Maria plans on furthering her education by pursuing a PhD in pediatric clinical psychology.
