Dr. Owen will not be accepting new doctoral students into her lab to work with her in the 2025-26 Academic Year.
The Children and Families Lab at The University of Texas at Dallas is led by Margaret Tresch Owen, PhD, Robinson Family Professor of Psychological Sciences and the former director of UT Dallas’ Center for Children and Families. The Lab is actively engaged in research contributing to the scholarship on parenting and parent-child relationships, other close adult-child relationships, and broader contextual influences on children’s development and well-being across multiple ages.
Our main, current focus, in a longitudinal study funded by NIH, is on the development of children’s executive function skills and school achievement in the contexts of low family income, race/ethnic and poverty stressors and sources of resilience, school quality, and parent-child relationships. Through rigorous research, the Lab works to apply our findings and inform strategies for interventions so that practices are evidence-based and pragmatic.
