DEI

For far too long science has excluded groups from participating fully in the scientific process. We aim to change this course by taking action to support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at the level of our lab, our school, and our field.

In our lab we embrace diversity in age, ethnicity, race, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity, language, and socio-economic status. We do this by recruiting trainees with diverse backgrounds- check out our summer research internship program!

We commit to DEI at the level of our school by contributing to action oriented groups with the aim of tackling DEI. PI Swanson is a member of the Psychology Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Anti-Racism Group (IDEA Group) and in 2020 co-led efforts to change our doctoral admissions process to be holistic in nature.

We commit to DEI at the level of our field by conducting research outside of the WEIRD participant samples and by ensuring that local communities play an active role in the design, implementation, and dissemination of our research. Check out our projects with the Center for Children and Families.
