Print out the cartilages and muscles on a color printer. Try to make them as large as you can.
- Cut out thyroid cartilage and hyoid bone.
- Affix #’s 1 and 2 of hyoid bone to #’s 1 and 2 top of thyroid cartilage.
- Cut out cricoid cartilage.
- Fold together ends of cricoid cartilage to make a “ring”, and attach the #3’s together.
- Match #’s 4 and 5 of cricoid cartilage to #’s 4 and 5 of thyroid cartilage, making sure the larger portion of the cricoid cartilage is in back.
- Cut out the epiglottis and attach #6 of epiglottis to # 6 on thyroid cartilage, making sure the larger part of epiglottis is at the top.
- Cut out the funny orange shapes (i.e., arytenoid cartilages).
- Fold on dotted lines and glue #9’s of one arytenoid cartilage together, and #10’s of other arytenoid together (you should end up with two pyramidal shapes).
- Attach #7 of one arytenoid to #7 of cricoid cartilage.
- Attach #8 of other arytenoid to #8 of cricoid cartilage.
- Fold arytenoids so that the tips of “pyramids” are pointing towards thyroid cartilage.
- Cut out intrinsic muscles (colored strips) and attach appropriately (consult your books and notes!). Alternatively, you may wish to use colored ribbons (they are more flexible than paper strips). Please include: (2) Vocalis, (2) Thyroarytenoid, (1) Transverse interarytenoid, (2) LCA, (2) PCA, and (2) Oblique interarytenoids.
Good luck!
