The Neuroaudiology Lab at The University of Texas at Dallas focuses on understanding how auditory perception evolves across the lifespan and as a consequence of hearing loss. The central motivation of our work is to develop improved clinical tools and treatments for hearing disorders. We are particularly interested in improving outcomes for individuals who use cochlear implants and for those who experience hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound).
Research Topics
- Understanding the lived experience of children and adults who have hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound)
- Developing sensitive tools to measure loudness perception, emotional reactions to sound, and sound-related pain
- Quantifying age-related changes in the peripheral and central auditory systems
- Identifying auditory, demographic, and neural factors that influence the quality of cochlear implant stimulation
- Developing individualized cochlear implant interventions
