Struggling in the Ecosystem

In “Struggling in the Ecosystem,” Hadi narrates his MFA thesis exhibition in which projects are designed to raise awareness about significant environmental issues.
This series of interactive installations responds to viewers’ presence and movement by means of digital sensors, including PIR and ultrasonic sensors. These interactions symbolize humanity’s impact on ecosystems through individuals’ behaviors and highlight the urgent need for environmental responsibility. The immersive experiences encourage feelings of empathy and shared responsibility through quiet reflection and storytelling. The topics of struggle and memory guide an examination of multiple ecological contexts, from vanishing wetlands and marine life to endangered forests, presented in a way that evokes emotional responses and prompts audiences to reflect and act meaningfully towards environmental change.

ABOUT
Hadi Asgharpour is an interdisciplinary artist from Iran. His practice explores ecological issues and the complex interdependencies between humans and the natural world, drawing from themes of sustainability, memory, and the Anthropocene. Working across interactive installation, sculpture, and digital media, he creates multisensory environments that invite reflection on urgent environmental concerns such as deforestation, water scarcity, pollution, and overfishing. Blending traditional materials with emerging technologies, his work engages viewers in poetic and participatory experiences that foster empathy and ecological awareness. Asgharpour’s approach is grounded in narrative and environmental activism, seeking to cultivate a deeper connection between people and the ecosystems they inhabit.
