The Sadler Lab is located on UTD’s main campus in Richardson, TX. In addition to having its own vibrant food and culture scene, Richardson is <30 min from downtown Dallas and two major airports (DFW, DAL).
Postdoctoral Fellows
We are actively recruiting postdoctoral fellows to work on NIH-funded projects that investigate how pain-related changes in the gut microbiome alter activity in peripheral and central neuronal circuits. Postdocs will work with Kate to develop individualized training goals; fellows are encouraged to identify research topics and technical approaches they want to learn in our lab by exploring this website and reading our publications. At the beginning of their training, postdocs will be expected to work part-time on funded projects. Fellows will spend their remaining effort developing independent research programs that are aligned with the scientific goals of the lab. Postdocs are expected to mentor junior lab members and positively contribute to the lab culture. Fellows will have ample opportunity to apply for independent funding, travel to scientific conferences, and network with other academics. Fellows are also encouraged to identify and participate in other training activities consistent with their career goals.
Ideal candidates will have the following:
- PhD in Neuroscience, Physiology, Microbiology, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field prior to beginning in the lab
- Strong evidence of leadership: first author publications, mentoring experience, leadership roles in organizations
- Expertise in patch clamp electrophysiology, rodent pain behavior, or in vivo circuit manipulations (e.g. optogenetics, chemogenetics, calcium imaging)

Graduate Students
We do not directly recruit graduate students to the lab, but instead rotate PhD students through UTD’s Systems and Cellular (SCN) Neuroscience Program. We also accept Master’s students who intend to complete a research thesis through the Applied Cognition and Neuroscience (ACN) Program. If you are applying to either program and specifically interested in working in our lab, contact Kate (katelyn.sadler@ utdallas.edu). We have two open positions for PhD students in Fall 2023 and will consider ACN students on a case-by-case basis.
