Goals for Expanding Membership

Recruiting the Best to Texas

Collaborative Recruiting Efforts to Bring the Best Scientists to Texas — We are focused on bringing the best pain scientists to the State of Texas. TPRC is actively creating a recruitment network for pain research faculty positions throughout the state will allow us to coordinate efforts, potentially pool resources and bring the best and brightest junior, mid-career and senior scientists to Texas.

Innovative Training Programs

Creation of a Texas Pain Research Consortium Postdoctoral Fellowship Program — Research collaborations are driven by the people that do the day-to-day science. Postdoctoral fellows are the key drivers of work in most laboratories in modern biomedical sciences. We will strive to create a state-wide postdoctoral fellowship that will facilitate collaborative research between laboratories in the state. To achieve this we will first focus on the UT System but intend to broaden this to include other institutions in Texas.

Creation of a Texas Pain Sciences Trainee Summer Program — Pain research is increasing multi-disciplinary and innovative cross-cutting projects require diverse training from the best researchers. It is difficult to cover pain research in a single program but, increasingly, PhD-seeking students are looking for broad training in this area. To achieve a world-class program in Pain Sciences across the state we envision creating a cross-institutional summer training program for PhD and postdoctoral students that build on the comprehensive research and clinical strengths in the state to create a program that will be an example for the rest of the world.
