Postdoctoral Research

Two postdoctoral research associate positions are available for working on a research project funded by the United States Department of Energy. This three-year project involves collaboration between the University of Texas at Dallas and the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST). It aims to develop miniaturized scanning probe devices for high-throughput atomically precise manufacturing.

The candidates should have experience with MEMS design, characterization and microfabrication in a cleanroom environment and be able to design interface electronic circuits for MEMS transducers. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to participate in a host of theoretical and experimental projects, supervise graduate and undergraduate researchers, write reports and manuscripts, attend international conferences and prepare proposals. One of the researchers will be located at the Laboratory for Dynamics and Control of Nanosystems at the University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX. The other will be based at the NIST campus in Gaithersburg, MD.

The applicants should have (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Researchers at the Laboratory for Dynamics and Control of Nanosystems are at the forefront of research in nanodynamic systems and have made substantial contributions to the field. We have a fully-equipped laboratory, a group of dedicated researchers, and strong collaborations with academic and industrial research groups around the world.

As a student, you will have access to a laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment such as: scanning probe microscopes, a 3D micro laser scanning vibrometer, real-time prototyping systems, and excellent computing facilities. You will be engaged in projects at the cutting edge of nanotechnology and nanoscience. You will contribute to the development of devices and methodologies for interrogation of matter at the nanoscale utilizing systems theoretic concepts.
