CE7V80 Special Topics in Computer Engineering – Neural Networks and Deep Learning

A new course developed by Dr. Berrak Sisman for Spring 2023 term. The course covers the following topics:

  • From Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Deep Learning
  • Theory of Neural Networks: how to build them, how to optimize them
  • How to apply NN in real life? Some application areas will be studied.
  • Theory of Deep Learning
  • Loss functions, optimization, overfitting, regularization
  • State-of-the-art deep learning models (DNN, CNN, LSTM, GAN, CycleGAN, etc)
  • Applications of deep learning
  • CNNs for computer vision
  • LSTM for speech processing
  • GANs for voice conversion

CE 3303 – Discrete-time Signal and Systems

Discrete-Time Signals and Systems (3 semester credit hours). Students learn the fundamentals of discrete-time signals and systems, complex numbers, sampling and analog to digital signal conversion, digital signals and discrete-time linear time-invariant systems, linear difference equations, convolution, z-transform and transfer function, discrete-time Fourier transform, discrete Fourier transform, fast Fourier transform, digital images and two-dimensional discrete Fourier transform.

EESC 6362 – Introduction to Speech Processing

Introduction to Speech Processing (3 semester credit hours). Students will learn the fundamentals of speech signal processing and speech applications, speech analysis and speech synthesis techniques, speech enhancement and speech coding techniques including ADPCM and linear-predictive based methods such as CELP.
