Postdoctoral fellows

Bin He received his Ph.D. in seismic exploration from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences,  in January 2020. During his Ph.D., his research mainly focused on reflection full-waveform inversion, migration velocity analysis, and free-surface multiple waveform inversion using marine datasets. He switched to regional-scale seismology using ambient noise and teleseismic full-waveform inversion for the Mid-continent Rift from March 2020 to April 2022 at the University of Toronto as a postdoc. Now, he is a research associate at the University of Texas at Dallas. Currently, his work includes retrieving the body waves from seismic ambient noise for higher-resolution imaging and monitoring, passive source imaging, and azimuthal anisotropy adjoint tomography using Teleseismic waves. Personally, he likes to play tennis and swim.

Graduate students

Shuo Zhang received his Bachelor’s Degree in Prospecting Technology and Engineering from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in June 2016, and Master’s Degree in Geoscience from The University of Texas at Dallas in May 2018. His current work includes constructing a 3-D crustal velocity model and induced seismicity in Oklahoma, and time-lapse ambient seismic noise analysis.

Bingxu Luo graduated from Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou, China) with a bachelor’s degree in Marine Sciences in 2017. He joined the Geosciences department at The University of Texas at Dallas in 2018 and started pursuing  Ph.D. in Geophysics in 2019. His research topics include earthquake detection and location, source imaging, near-surface seismic velocity analysis and their relation with environmental changes. He is good at playing basketball and interested in any other kind of sports.

Omer Bodur graduated in 2017 with a Geophysical Engineering degree from Istanbul Technical University. Further to pursue his Master’s thesis, he went to Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences to have a joint research project between geophysics and geodynamics. Currently, he is a PhD student at the University of Texas at Dallas, and study the upper mantle tomography for the entire Anatolia (also Aegean) with adjoint calculations. He would like to investigate mantle flows beneath these area using azimuthal anisotropy. Personally, he plays chess and basketball in my spare time. He also enjoys exploring new countries, cities, and places.

Yu Chen received his Bachelor’s Degree in Exploration Geophysics from China University of Petroleum (East China) in June 2020. He is currently an Ph.D. student interested in seismic migration, seismic inversion, and structural seismology. He is currently working on viscoelastic full waveform inversion for attenuation estimation in North American and SKS waveform inversion for subduction zones in Japan. In his free time, he loves outdoor activities such as hiking and traveling.

Chongpeng Huang received his bachelor’s degree in Geophysics and master’s degree in Geological Resources and Geological Engineering from China University of Petroleum (East China) in 2020 and 2023, respectively. Currently, he is working on his Ph.D. in Geophysics. He is interested in studying seismic inversion and ambient noise. He enjoys playing badminton and table tennis for relaxation, as well as eating all kinds of food.
