Equipment

The Project Workshop is intended for making prototypes. The materials are restricted to wood, plastic, or aluminum.

Larger scale manufacturing equipment and operations are also available on campus with professional supervision and fewer restrictions on materials:

The following equipment and tools are available in the ECSW Project Workshop (mainly ECSW 1.160, unless other rooms are noted):

Aluminum sheets 5000 series work very well if you plan to bend the sheets and not have to deal with cracks.

  • Please come to ECSW 1.160 during the student worker’s office hours. They will open the paint booth for you.
  • We cannot allow one person to be alone in the booth, so please come with a partner. The student worker cannot be your partner.
  • Bring with you the item you like to paint, the paint, and the PPE required.
  • We require a face mask that you need to bring with you. Please read the label of your paint can and make sure to get appropriate face mask.
  • We also require safety glasses from ECSW 1.160.
  • When using the paint booth, the lever (1) is ON, the switch (2) is up, the switch (3) is up, the knob on (4) is at 30%.
  • When not using the paint booth and there is no drying paint in the booth, please turn the switch (3) down.
