Teaching

Teaching Emergent Studies is a core mission of our center. One of our key initiatives is a graduate seminar in the Advanced Technology and Emerging Communication (ATCM) program in the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology (Bass School) at UTD. This course is designed for a diverse group of students—undergraduate, master’s, and PhD candidates—with a focus on Experimental Publishing.

Our approach involves a small team of experienced educators who integrate technology to deliver knowledge across multiple learning nodes, including in-person classrooms and remotely. This hybrid model supports collaborative teaching both onsite and online, fostering a unified, dynamic and innovative learning experience. Students engage in discussions, hands-on applications, and interactive learning.

Lectures and interactions are recorded, edited, and shared to expand access for international audiences. This initiative contributes to the development of an Off-Center for Teaching and Learning, applying Pedagogy, Heutagogy, Anthropogy, Cybergogy, and Geragogy to the field of Emergence.

Course Description employed (3-0) T

Emergence is a philosophy that considers how unpredictable patterns and behaviors in physical, biological, psychological, and social systems can result from interactions of simpler subsystems. Emergence provides a valuable framework for understanding large-scale complex structures and dynamics shaped by simpler components. Understanding Emergence also provides a useful framework for thinking about our uncertain future. The course combines theory with technical skills and case studies in areas like AI applications, emerging media, and the Senex, guiding students to explore various career paths in fields such as data science, systems design, healthcare, financial technology, and organizational development.
