On April 11, 2025, the UTDallas Physics Department held a full day retreat of all its faculty and staff at the Richardson Innovation Quarter Headquarters; it was led by Physics Chair Andres Cisneros. The final thinking aloud was by Vice Provost Joseph Pancrasio. It was a quantum meeting of minds, a collective consciousness, and anxiety that was prompted by a few facts:
1) There are declining numbers of physics students at UTDallas and elsewhere
2) International students are being expelled for no logical reason
3) The US government is decreasing physics funding in large amounts; during the meeting, it was announced that a premier space astrophysics center, the Goddard Space Flight Center would be closed
4) Physics professor Ishak-Boushak announced that it was likely that the expansion of the universe might end
5) Physics students have broad skills useful in many professions, but never learn the vocabularies to apply them.
