About the Positions
The Liu Quantum Matter Lab in the Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for two postdoctoral research positions to explore the frontiers of quantum materials using:
- Ultra-Low Temperature, High-B Field Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM)
- 2D Transport Measurements – including device fabrication and dilution refrigerator
operation
Our group investigates strongly correlated and topological quantum phases in exotic
quantum materials, aiming to uncover new physical phenomena and advance potential
quantum technologies.
Why Join Us?
- Operate the state-of-the-art ultra-low temperature and high-B field instrumentation,
such as STM and dilution refrigerators - Strong mentorship to foster scientific independence
- Opportunities to publish in leading journals and present at major international
conferences - Advanced research infrastructure, including a new helium recycling system, multiple
class-rated clean rooms, and extensive shared fabrication and measurement facilities - Modern, brand-new laboratory and office spaces designed for cutting-edge research and collaboration.
What We’re Looking For

- Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field (completed or expected by start date)
- Solid background in condensed matter physics
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with ultra-low temperature, high-B field STM instrumentation
- Expertise in nanofabrication, and/or dilution refrigerator operation
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct experimental research in your focus area
- Develop, refine, and document experimental protocols
- Analyze data and maintain advanced instrumentation
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers
- Contribute to manuscripts, proposals, and conference presentations
