Joining the Team

The McCall lab is always interested in motivated Ph.D. students with experimental background in materials synthesis and characterization, especially solid-state materials chemistry, optical characterization, or electrical characterization. For graduate candidates not already accepted to UTD, please note that we do not do direct recruitment for Ph.D. or M.S. positions. Interested candidates should apply directly to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UTD, a link to the application may be found at MSE Graduate Admissions. Specific positions will be listed as available, and at present we are not recruiting for Spring 2025 but intend to for Fall 2025. Candidates eligible for graduate fellowships (such as the NSF GRFP, see Resources page) are encouraged to reach out to discuss the prospect of working together on an application to support your research vision – we are happy to help realize ambitious ideas.

We are always interested in postdoctoral fellows with experience in materials and solid-state chemistry and/or advanced optical and electrical characterization, with a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics. Candidates eligible for postdoctoral fellowships (see Resources page) are encouraged to reach out to discuss the prospect of working together on an application to support their research vision. Any specific openings will be posted on the UTD jobs board and listed below as available. Beyond a strong scientific background, postdoctoral fellows need excellent communication skills as they will have the opportunity to be independent in preparing manuscripts and mentoring of younger group members. Interested candidates should send 1) Cover letter describing their research experience and goals for the position, 2) CV with publication list, and also have 2-3 suitable references available upon request.

Interested undergraduate students at UTD should contact Prof. McCall to discuss research in the lab and what projects are available. Work study positions are available for undergraduates who qualify. Elective research course credit is available for undergraduate researchers, under either the MSEN 4v95 or CHEM 4v91 course numbers.
