Welcome to the Rincón-Cortés lab page!

Lab Pic, February 2024

We are a developmental behavioral neuroscience lab that studies how exposure to adversity compromises behavioral and brain function throughout the lifespan. We are particularly interested in the postpartum period and early development. We focus on early development because it constitutes a sensitive period for early life programming, which means that adversity experienced during this time is likely to have a long-lasting impact on neurobehavioral function. We also focus on the postpartum period because this is a time of increased risk for affective dysregulation in women and because postpartum adversity is a translational risk factor for postpartum depression, which is known to disrupt maternal behavior and have negative intergenerational effects.
