Think Different: How Apple Launched a Design Revolution

Anne Balsamo, director of IQ Design, curated an exhibit of Apple advertising campaigns to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Macintosh Computer in 1984. The exhibit featured a sculpture of vintage televisions running a video loop of iconic Apple commercials.

CODE | Art

The exhibition addressed the intersection of computer code, visual art, and technology. Featuring works from 24 emerging artists, the exhibition showcases different modes of collaborations between artist and computer.

Streams of the Past

The exhibit features works that use vintage technologies as platforms for new visual experiences. Obsolete relics serve as conduits for encounters with electronic media that have been digitally reconfigured to disrupt our certainty about the linear passage of time.

Public Interactives

AstroTable

Dale MacDonald, Director of Creative Technologies for IQ Design, created the interactive experience, AstroTable in 2018 for an exhibit commemorating the Apollo lunar mission. Users can tilt and spin the tabletop to navigate the trajectory of the Apollo 11 flight enroute its historical moon landing in July 1969.

Augmented Reality Portals

IQ Design team members Leticia Ferreira and Hannah Zacharia created three interactive AR experiences called Portals. Each portal features an iconic image of the main UTD campus that animates when viewed through a simple phone app.

Catalyst — UT Dallas Innovation Hub

IQ Design created the name, brand identity, logo portfolio, and media assets for UT Dallas Innovation space at the Richardson Innovation Headquarters.

Placemaking

UT Dallas at the Richardson Innovation Quarter Headquarters

To turn a white box space into a place for innovative thinking and unexpected connections, IQ Design created a design palette and visual language for the physical spaces of the building to evoke the energy of unexpected moments of innovation.

Media Messaging

North Texas Semiconductor Institute Strategic Media Campaign

IQ Design created a strategic communication plan for the creation and dissemination of messages about the growth of the semiconductor industry in North Texas. A five-phase messaging plan included the production of 30 short videos for sharing on social media platforms.

Storyfinding

MINTS-AI Research Center at UT Dallas

Storyfinding involved a comprehensive investigation of the Center’s research portfolio. IQ Design then designed a branding and messaging approach to highlight the social and cultural significance of the Center’s emphasis on “actionable insights.”
