Snail Vent

Latitude: 11.651οN                  Longitude: 143.049οE             Depth: 5700 m bsl

Shinkai Seep Field (SSF) is an outcrop of serpentinized peridotite hosted hydrothermal vent system in the southern Mariana forearc (Ohara et al., 2011). Methane seepages (Yamanaka et al., 2015) as well as abundant vesicomyid clam communities (Ohara et al., 2011) are found in this serpentinite-hosted hydrothermal vent system. The organisms other than the vesicomyid clams are actiniarians, zoanthids, a Beroe comb jelly, buccinid snails, and galatheid crabs (Ohara et al., 2011).
