As part of a DOE grant to the UTD Wind Energy Center (UTD Wind), we are happy to announce that FDT Lab has received partial support for laboratory space renovations that house a state-of-the-art wind-wave tunnel facility designed specifically for the study of air-sea interactions and marine renewable energy.
UTD Wind received $1.6 million through the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act to fund the expansion of the center. As part of these extensions, the newly developed wind-wave tunnel facility of the FDT Lab is now affiliated with UTD Wind Center, making it available for collaborative research projects. The new facility will provide advanced capabilities for cross-disciplinary research and bring much of the center’s operations under one roof.
We are particularly excited about the new collaborative opportunities this will bring and the future of our partnership with UTD Wind at the intersection of ocean surface waves and marine renewable energies research.
