We are honored to share that Dr. Yousefi has received the prestigious Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Program (YIP) award. This project will explore synergistic experimental measurements and data-driven modeling to study sea spray-induced fluxes at high wind conditions. This recognition highlights Dr. Yousefi’s significant contributions to the field of physical oceanography and turbulent air-sea interactions.

Dr. Yousefi’s work focuses on understanding the complex dynamics of turbulent flows in oceanic environments, which is crucial for naval operations, environmental monitoring, and climate modeling. This achievement not only brings distinction to our institution but also underscores the important role of academic research in addressing real-world challenges. Dr. Yousefi’s work is expected to contribute significantly to the scientific community’s understanding of sea spray processes and aid in the development of more accurate predictive models for extreme weather conditions.

The ONR YIP award is one of the most esteemed distinctions for early-career researchers, aiming to support their innovative research endeavors that hold promise for the advancement of naval science and technology. Prior academic accomplishments and potential for significant scientific breakthroughs are key elements of the evaluation criteria for the YIP award. The 2025 YIP awardees were chosen from more than 230 applicants — all of whom are university tenure-track or equivalent faculty in STEM.
