How a couple recovers from conflict may be as important to the ongoing functioning of their relationship as is their behavior during conflict. In order to sustain a high level of intimacy and satisfaction over many years and through many disagreements, a couple must be able to reconcile after a conflict and reestablish their intimate bond. Although much is known about the impact of couples’ behavior during conflict, less is known about how couples repair their relationship following conflict, and how effectively. The purpose of the Couples Daily Lives Laboratory (CDL lab) at The University of Texas at Dallas is to investigate romantic couples’ recoveries from conflict, and to determine the characteristics of individual partners and couples that predict more versus less successful efforts to recover from conflict and restore the couple’s intimate bond. Ultimately, the CDL lab will provide practitioners with assessment and intervention tools for helping couples repair their relationships.
